Garda Inspectorate Statement on the CSO Review of the Quality of Crime Statistics 2016 The Inspectorate notes the report by the CSO on the Review of the Quality of Crime Statistics 2016, published today. The report reiterates issues found in an examination of recording practices published by the CSO in 2015 and originally identified by the Inspectorate in the Crime Investigation Report in October 2014. This includes the non-recording of crime, the misclassification of crime, the unjustified downgrading of crime to a less serious offence and the incorrect recording of detections. The Inspectorate is disappointed at the findings of the latest report and is particularly concerned that poor recording practices continue to be identified for burglaries, assaults and domestic abuse.
