The Garda Síochána Inspectorate is a separate entity to the Garda Síochána and should not be contacted to report a crime or to request the police to attend an incident. Under Section 117(2) (a) of the Garda Síochána Act 2005, as amended, the functions of the Inspectorate are to carry out, if it considers it appropriate to do so or at the request of the Policing Authority in respect of a matter relating to policing services or the Minister for Justice, inspections or inquiries in relation to any particular aspect of the operation and administration of the Garda Síochána. Following an inspection or review, and a measuring of performance by reference to the best standards of comparable police services, a report is produced containing recommendations for change.
The Garda Inspectorate’s Access Officer is Mr. Ian Kelleher in accordance with Section 26(2) of the Disability Act.
The Access Officer is responsible for providing, arranging or co-ordinating assistance to persons with disabilities who wish to access the services provided by the Garda Inspectorate.
The Access Officer also acts as a point of contact for persons with disabilities who wish to access such services.
