The Garda Inspectorate today published updates of tables on its website (http://www.gsinsp.ie) showing the current status of the 134 recommendations made by the Inspectorate in its first three reports.
Commenting on the tables, Chief Inspector Kathleen O’Toole said:
“I am satisfied that the Garda Síochána is taking on board the recommendations of the Inspectorate and implementing them by way of operational practices, management practices and policy updates. During these difficult fiscal times it is imperative that the Garda Síochána pursues every avenue to greater efficiency and effectiveness.”
The Chief Inspector continued:
“I am pleased that, in response to the Inspectorate’s recommendations, the Garda Síochána now has a team of civilian experts at senior management level in administration, finance, information technology, communications and legal matters. This will ensure sound management practices in these important areas allowing senior Garda officers to focus on their primary task of operational policing.
The Inspectorate is committed to working closely with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and the Garda Síochána in monitoring the implementation of all its published recommendations. The implementation tables will continue to be updated twice yearly.
