This report, requested by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, is a review of the Garda Síochána performance in the area of roads policing. It examined Garda policies and procedures for roads policing; garda structures for managing roads policing; looked at the investigation of fatal and serious road traffic collisions and assessed the effectiveness and efficiency of enforcement and prosecution of road traffic offences.
The inspection linked into similar inspections carried out by the Northern Ireland Criminal Justice Inspectorate (CJI) and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC). There are twenty-five recommendations contained in the report.
